First Phase of Healthcare Assocated Infections in Ambulatory Care Centers

Dear Colleagues:

Once again on behalf of the MO Department of Health and Senior Services and MU Nursing Outreach, I want to thank each of you for your role in making the first phase of the Health Associated Infections in Ambulatory Care Centers such a major success.  We fully met each of our goals which included planning, implementing and evaluating a series of four full day CE programs offered at Blue Springs, Columbia, St. Louis and Springfield on a complimentary basis.  Both the quantitative and qualitative measures of knowledge, skill and attitudinal changes from before to after the one day session are impressive.  We attracted close to 200 participants at the live sessions and they represented every target audience we discussed plus many from the acute care setting.  The evaluations of the sessions were outstanding and the participants were extremely grateful for a high caliber CE program offered in their own locale at no cost.

Additionally, an HAI website has been developed with all the handouts and learning resources from the live sessions, plus reminders and updates from the CDC and a number of links to current articles, videos, etc.  http://nursingoutreach.missouri.edu/infectionprevention11.htm

I hope you folks know how important you were to the curriculum development including topics and speakers.  Your input on how to market the live educational programs, the level of content appropriate for the target audience, and the actual presentations by the four APIC representatives were invaluable.  This would not have happened without out you.

Attached you will find a detailed summary of the outcomes.  The 1st attachment includes a 1 page Executive Summary followed by a more detailed report.  The 2nd attachment contains the appendices.

The second phase of the project is underway.  It includes bringing the speakers from the live event in Columbia to campus and videotaping them in a production studio.  Web based CE modules will be developed for each of the sessions and offered to those who could not attend the live sessions around the state.

Again, thanks and let us know if you have any questions or comments.
